The death of George Floyd by Minneapolis police in May 2020 triggered the most significant racial justice protests in the United States since the Civil Rights Movement. In Oakland and the Bay Area at large, communities were ignited to show up in protest of state-sanctioned violence in our own backyard. People also showed up in memoriam of lives lost, both by police and inter-communal violence.
